The town centre is nearly entirely pedestrianised. If you want to enjoy a fine view of the cathedral, with the austere castle walls in the foreground, head for Elvet Bridge or Framwellgate Bridge. Near to St-Mary-le-Bow's Church, an alley descends towards Kingsgate Passage, built in 1963: it graciously crosses the gorge to link the city to the modern Student Union building, Dunelm House.
