Beneath the solid sandstone walls of the 12C keep, almost all that remains of Surrey's royal castle, banks of flowerbeds provide spectacular seasonal colour. Jeanne Argent's sculpture, Alice Through the Looking Glass (1990) commemorates writer Lewis Caroll, a frequent visitor to Guildford where he used to rent a house. He died on a visit here and is buried in the Mount cemetery.
