Ilminster Cathedral : Michelin's recommendations
The main feature of St Mary's is the tower over the transept crossing (27 m), built on the model of the one in Wells. The 15C Perpendicular gothic building originally only had a central nave. Side aisles were added in the 16C. The galleries above the nave and lower sides were added in 1824-1825. Note the fan vaulting in the crossing, and the Wadham Chapel (left arm of the transept), built in 1452 to house the tombs of Sir William Wadham and Nicholas Wadham, founder of Wadham College, Oxford.
