The gallery was financed from a legacy by James Ward Usher to house his collections of 16-19C miniatures, 17 and 18C French and English clocks, porcelain, glassware and personal objects. There is also an impressive coin collection. A room is devoted to the watercolours of Peter de Wint (1784-1849), who often painted views of the local countryside, and canvasses by local artists such as William Logsdail.
