Venture off the tourist trail and discover the hidden gems of East London on a walking tour that includes stops at Hoxton Square galleries, an East End cafe, the Spitalfields area, and Brick Lane.
Your journey through London's famous East End begins at the Old Street tube on the boundary of the city's financial district and creative area. Make your way to Hoxton Square and its galleries to admire the work of young local artists, and see where the elusive Bansky made his mark on the Moorefields Eye Hospital. Pass Jamie Oliver's social enterprise restaurant, Fifteen, and take a stroll along Regent's canal before coming across the studios where Hitchcock launched his career. Enjoy some time in one of East London's best parks, then travel to an area market to hunt for bargains and work up an appetite for your next stopa cafe that serves traditional pie and mash.
Continuing on, pay visits to the spot where Guy Fawkes' gunpowder plot was foiled and to the gallery where Damien Hirst made his name. See one of the few circus schools in London, and keep your eye out for more contemporary street art. For some examples of London repurposing, visit a church that has been converted into a reclamation yard, and behold offices made from old London Underground carriages. Head to the historic Spitalfields conservation areafilled with Georgian terraces and home to artists Tracey Emin and Gilbert and Georgeand browse the market boutiques before passing the Ten Bells pub, where several of Jack the Ripper's victims had their final drink. Experience the unique multicultural atmosphere of Brick Lane, featuring a Huguenot church that was once a synagogue and is now home to a mosque, and pass the famous curry houses of Banglatown before the tour ends at the fashionable Truman brewery.
