Cuisine Italian

Menu: £27 (lunch) - Carte: £37/£65

'Cotidie' means 'everyday' which refers to the oft-changing menu rather than the style of the Italian food, which is sophisticated and imaginative. The prices and elegant surroundings make this a special occasion restaurant.

      Pros

Very professional service and reception. Quality dining area. Above all, the food was top notch. From the grilled octopus to the suckling pig and home made gnocchi (and even the generous bread basket) everything was cooked to perfection and seasoned to enhance - rather than kill like in so many other places, the true flavours of lovely fresh Mediterranean ingredients. How to put it, Cotidie is a very refined Italian which sticks to its culinary origins without silly pretentions. Surely worth a *

      Pros

The place is really nice: it's one big room with a pleasant soft light and a good acoustic. Personnel is kind and available but it lacks of catering education (given the price). Wine served along with the testing menu for an additional GBP 40 was good even though I would have expected a different wine for each dish.

      Cons

I would have expected high level, refined cousine given this is Bruno Barbieri's restaurant. Instead, dishes were pretty simple and far from a "want-to-be" starred restaurant. Moreover, the sequence of dishes was a disaster: I could not see any logic in the escalation of flavors. Menu: grilled tomino wrapped in speak with salad and black truffle oil; cauliflower velouté with gorgonzola gratin and toasted hazelnuts; pumpkin ravioli with parmesan, brown butter and nutmeg; rib eye tagliata (GBP65)
