Founded in 1836, the university has been located in Bloomsbury since the period after the Second World War II, although the Senate House has been based here since 1932. Colleges, faculties and new institutions are in the immediate vicinity, occupying 18C and 19C buildings and an eclectic complex incorporating brick, stone, concrete, steel, mosaic work and glass which is seemingly continuously being extended.
