Official residence of the Lord mayors who are only in office for one year. Mansion House was built between 1739 and 1752 by the city architect George Dance the elder taking as his inspiration the Venetian villas of Palladium. As well as the Lord Mayor's apartments, Mansion House has a police court and some richly adorned and furnished reception rooms. The silverware and the insignia of the Lord mayor are quite remarkable.
