Middle Temple Hall Recommended Recommended : Michelin's recommendations

Opened in the 1575 by Queen Elizabeth I, this huge brick Tudor building has a splendidly ornate oak beamed ceiling (1574) and stained glass windows decorated with heraldic motifs. The wood panelling bears the coats of arms of masters who were teaching pupils here in the Middle Ages. It was here on 2 February 1602 that Shakespeare reputedly presented the inaugural performance of Twelfth Night before Elizabeth and her courtiers.
