With excellent access provided by the River Thames and the railways, this area saw the construction of factories and workshops from the 19C. Bombing during the Second World War destroyed large parts of it, and new developments sprang up. Riverside Walk, called Queen's Walk since the Silver Jubilee in 1977, is a good way of exploring the South Bank. The walk begins at County Hall and leads to Southwark and Tower Bridge.
