A stone slab marks the site of the scaffold and the gallows used from 1455 to 1747. Today there are monuments to the Merchant Navy, a section of the City wall, a Roman stele and the remains of a tower entrance. To the north of the park is Trinity House, a restored 18C building, headquarters of the Trinity House Corporation, founded by Henry VIII in 1514 to rescue and protect ships and sailors.
