The existing building was enlarged and re-fronted in 1619 to produce what Pevsner described as "the prodigy of timber-framed houses where everything of motifs that was available has been lavished on the façade". The balcony was added in the mid-1840s for electioneering purposes and the entire building renovated in 1970.
