Castlefield Heritage Park
: Michelin's recommendations
Manchester developed from a Roman colony and relics of the Roman stronghold still exist today (North door and a section of the perimeter wall).
In the 18C. Castlefield was situated at the centre of an important canal network whose construction began with the Duke of Bridgwater's canal in 1761.
The tow path of canal, which is open to the public is a nice place for a walk (1.5km), alongside the stretch of the irweil between Castlefield and Ship Canal, otherwise known as Salford Quays.
