Padstow
: Michelin's recommendations
For centuries Padstow was a major port, being the only safe harbour on the Cornish coast. Subsequently an industrial port developed, handling china-clay, copper ore, wheat, barley, oats and cheese, but a sand bar hampered the navigation of ships over 10t, hence its eventual decline. The present-day harbour is the focal point of the town, where fishing boats, yachts and launches are moored alongside quays lined by old houses, boathouses and pubs.
