From Pickering station, steam trains still travel to Grosmont (29 km). The North Yorkshire Moors Railway is a remainder of the Pickering-Whitby line that was opened in 1836 by Stephenson.

Defending a crossroads, that used to make this site so important, the castle is made of the rock on which it stands. On a high hillock stands the 13C keep that was probably built on a more ancient building.

On the north and south walls of this church, largely made in the romanesque style, you can see frescoes that were uncovered in 1851 and have been restored since, showing the lives and acts of the two saints.
