Prysten House (Prior's House), the oldest house in Plymouth (1490), is three storeys high and has an inner courtyard with open wooden galleries. The living room has a fine wooden ceiling, its beams still blackened by smoke - a legacy of the Dissolution period - when the house was used for smoking bacon. It also has attractive transom windows and granite fireplaces.
