Polperro
: Michelin's recommendations
This charming old fishing village, with closely packed cottages and winding alleys (closed to vehicles), nestles in an inlet. Visitors reach it via a steep road which follows the river down to the coast. A converted waterfront sardine factory houses a small museum displaying photographs by Lewis Harding (1806-1893) and exhibits illustrating the area's past, which was long dependent on fishing and smuggling.
