Charles Dickens was born in a small terraced house in 1812 where he spent his childhood. The house has been restored and furnished in the style of the period. Across the landing from the bedroom, a small exhibition includes the green velvet sofa on which Charles Dickens died in Gads Hill (Kent) on 9 June 1870.
