Previously on the shore, Rhuddlan was in 1282 the base for operations against the Welsh. In 1284, Edward I here proclaimed the famous "Statute of Wales" which guaranteed the Principality of Wales legal rights and its independence (note the plaque in the High Street on Rhuddlan Parliament Building).
