The waters of the River Birks run through a 500-m tunnel to reach the wheel of this restored, early-19C water mill, situated in the centre of the town. Inside, the operative milling machinery rumbles and creaks and there is an exhibition showing the importance to the Scottish diet of oatmeal, used in making porridge, biscuits and haggis.
