Abernethy : Michelin's recommendations
The main road bypasses the old centre of this peaceful village in the foothills of the Ochils. The location of this village, in the heart of the Pictish Kingdom, has led some scholars to assert that it was the latter's first capital. Later, it became a Celtic village. The only evidence of its historical past is a round tower from the 11C. This Irish-style building was used as a refuge and belfry. The 22.5m-high tower stands separate from the churchyard gate and is slightly tapered.
