Alford : Michelin's recommendations
This market town is located in the Howe of Alford, a rich basin of arable land surrounded by hills. The poet Charles Murray (1864-1941) was born here. He spent much of his life in South Africa and was famous for his poetry written in the Doric dialect (Northeast Scotland).

Alford Valley Railway Museum

The station has now been turned into a small museum, illustrating the arrival of the railway in the area and its effects on rural Donside in the 19C. Steam and diesel engines run between the terminal and the Haughton regional park.
