Burghead : Michelin's recommendations
On the site of a former fort occupied (and perhaps built) by the Picts, this village sits on a rocky headland dominating Burghead Bay's great sandy curve. Burghead is particularly famous for its 7C and 8C Pictish stones, the Burghead Bulls, but its well (Burghead Well - King Street) is also a remarkble curiosity. Steps lead to a vaulted cistern surrounded by a walkway; nobody really knows why it was built.
