The seat of the Earls of Home. The 14th Earl of Home, Sir Alec Douglas-Home (1903-1995), renounced his title in 1963 to become Prime Minister. The estate has several nature trails, Lake Hirsel (a waterfowl sanctuary), and Dundock Wood, a mass of colour from late May to early June when the rhododendrons and azaleas are in full bloom. There is also a museum and visitor centre on the estate.
