Shoregate, the road leading to the harbour, has picturesque houses on either side. Crab and crayfish fishermen still use the inner harbour with its unusual patterns of stonework. On the quayside is the Customs House and, adjacent to it, is a group of houses standing around a cobbled yard. Further on, note the house at no 32 Castle Street and the charming 18C house at no 1 Rose Wynd, with an outside staircase and attractive door surround.
