On the northern tip of the peninsula of the Black Isle, in a superb location at the mouth of the Cromarty Firth guarded by the Sutors Stacks, the tiny port of Cromarty has been aptly described as "the jewel in the crown of Scottish vernacular architecture". Dating back to medieval times, it was redesigned in the late 18C by the ingenious town planner Sir George Ross. It is now a popular and particularly peaceful holiday destination.
