Dalkeith Country Park : Michelin's recommendations
The regional park includes the grounds and woodland of Dalkeith House which belongs to the Buccleuch estate, crossed by the North Esk and South Esk rivers. Dalkeith House (closed) is clearly visible from the path; it was rebuilt in 1708 on the site of the old Douglas castle. The present building is one of the series of great houses built in the Dutch neo-Palladian style. The architect who was called to Dalkeith had just finished building Hamilton Palace.
