Dalmellington : Michelin's recommendations

Doon Valley, southeast of Ayr, evokes Ayrshire's industrial past in numerous places. There is a museum illustrating this history near an opencast coalmine still in operation. In Dalmellington town centre, old single-storey houses overlooking the Doon make up the Cathcartston Visitor Centre, which houses a weaver's reconstructed workshop, as well as other local history exhibits.
