Bibendum
A guided tour will lead you through rooms from many different periods, decorated with portraits and numerous interesting objects. James I style furniture, armour and weapons are on show in the vaulted crypt, the main room in the original tower, which leads onto a large spiral staircase. The panels in the chapel, which is supposedly haunted by the "Grey Lady", are decorated with 17C paintings of the apostles and 15 scenes from the Bible. They are all by Dutch artist Jacob de Wet (1695-1754). In the oldest part of the Castle, the Duncan Room reminds us of Shakespeare's Macbeth, written during the reign of James VI; here you can see a number of portraits of royal characters who have lived in the Castle. Outside, beyond the magnificent chestnut tree, stands the beautiful Italian Garden.
