Timespan : Michelin's recommendations

This Visitors Centre, on the site of the old toll-house that once stood on the elegant twin-arch bridge over the River Helmsdale, built by Telford, presents the heritage and history of the Highlands in a series of life-size sets and exhibits. It tells tales of Vikings (Helmsdale gets its name from them), witches, wolves and ghosts. The most harrowing scenes relate the story of the Highland Clearances when farmers were evicted in the 19C.
