Innerleithen : Michelin's recommendations

This charming country town lies at the confluence of the River Leithen and River Tweed, which is wide and winding at this stage. Innerleithen is a wool town that has grown from a small rural village which prospered with the opening of its first factory, founded by Alexander Brodie, in 1790.

Tourist attractions Innerleithen : Things to see and do

  • Traquair House Recommended Recommended

    B 709 GB - Innerleithen EH44 6PW

On the south bank of the Tweed, 10 km south-east of Peebles, the white mass of Traquair rises above the greenery. A treasure trove of jewels, relics, traditions and legends illustrates the long history of this family. It was first a 12C hunting house..

  • Robert Smail's Printing Works

    7/9 st. High GB - Innerleithen EH44 6HA

Interesting witnesses of the past, the works stopped in 1986 but you can still see how printing was done here in the early 20C.

  • St Ronan's Wells

    st. High GB - Innerleithen EH44 6JE

Walter Scott, in his novel St Ronan's Wells, popularised the therapeutic benefits of this mineral source. The wells' hey-day is passed but the little building overlooking the town has been restored and contains a museum devoted to the spa baths.
