Culloden
Culloden : Michelin's recommendations
This bleak moor was the site of a bloody battle in 1746 when the army of a rebel prince (Bonnie Prince Charlie) was defeated by the troops of the Duke of Cumberland, the king's son. His cruelty earned him the sobriquet "Butcher Cumberland". The Visitor Centre has a presentation on the battle, which was the last on British soil. The Old Leanach Cottage recreates an interior at the time of the battle. Memorial stones and monuments mark the battlefield site.
