Ferniehurst Castle : Michelin's recommendations

Ferniehirst Castle occupies a strategically important site, near a major road not far from the border with England. It made an ideal base for the Wardens of the Middle March, as the region was called. The present building with its attractive rubble stonework dates from 1598. The tour includes the former hostel, a basement chamber, the entrance, great halls hung with portraits, and the beautifully panelled turret room.
