The artist, Edward Atkinson Hornel (1864-1933) moved into 17C Broughton House early in the 20C. One of the "Glasgow Boys" school and famous for his landscapes of Galloway, he is particularly well known for his daring style. His former home has been turned into a museum showing a collection of his works. The beautiful Japanese Garden reflects this artist's fascination with Japan.
