This former market place has a well in the centre that is a 19C replica of a former public lavatory. The large 17C town hall occupies the northern end of the square and replaces the original building destroyed by Cromwell. The current 20C staircase replaces a wrought iron loggia. It also houses the Tourist Office, with an exhibition on the town and its immediate surroundings.
