A museum was built here to house an interesting exhibition on shale oil extraction, a flourishing local industry in the early 20C. This activity employed up to 10,000 people before being replaced by oil imports. Further on, on the gently slope descending towards the River Almond, there are agricultural buildings housing many farm animals and a restored 18C mill.
