At the threshold of East Neuk and its lovely fishing villages, the medieval and Belle Époque streets of St Andrews extend between two fine sandy beaches. The majestic seafront ruins of the cathedral bear witness to it former status as Scotland’s religious capital, although the town retains its position as the world’s golfing capital, attracting players and tourists alike; charmed by its atmosphere, they can be forgiven for envying the student community studying at its 600 year-old university.
