Dounreay Nuclear Power Station (UKAEA) : Michelin's recommendations

For four decades, the coastal landscape of Sandside Bay has been dominated by the futuristic dome of Dounreay. Its rapid neutron reactor was the first of its type to produce domestic electricity, but the power station is now being dismantled. Its history is told in the visitor centre where hardly any mention is made of the explosion of 1977 in a refuse silo containing " a Molotov cocktail of radioactive substances".
