This castle (1856) shows the talent of David Bryce, who excelled in the Scottish noble style. The Guthrie family has owned it since the 19C. Robert Lorimer designed the magnificent gardens: see the terraces of the fountain and the lion, the water gardens and Japanese garden, and the statue path. Unexpectedly, these Italian-style terraced gardens provide fine views as far as Ben Nevis on a clear day.
