Shaftesbury Travel guide
Shaftesbury : Michelin's recommendations
Shaftesbury is perched on the crest of a 213m spur. It was an excellent vantage point chosen by King Alfred in his struggle against the Danes. The town's most attractive street is Gold Hill, whose cobbled slope is lined on one side with small 16C-18C houses, and on the other by a squat ochre-coloured buttressed wall (13C).
