In true Somerset tradition, this splendid medieval church has a slender tower built of the red and golden Ham Hill stone. The bosses and angels carved in the roofwork are typical examples of local craftmanship.
This 14-15C church (except the north arcade and aisle) features a 37-m tower of Quantock red sandstone with Ham stone decoration.
Architecture, castles and historic districts
Dating from the 11-12C, it is well known for being the property of the bishops of Winchester. During the Civil War, Taunton and its castle were under siege on three occasions. Part of it now houses the Somerset County Museum.
