Tewkesbury
: Michelin's recommendations
Founded in Saxon times, this small town is dominated by the imposing profile of its great Norman abbey church. In this low landscape between the Malvern Hills and Cotswolds, its tower can be seen for miles around. Tewkesbury is bypassed by the railway line and surrounded by floodplains around the confluence of the navigable Rivers Severn and Avon. It grew very little in the 19C and has thus retained its historic character almost intact.
