Cuisine British modern

Menu: £24/£49

Long-standing neighbourhood restaurant that's very personally run by a husband and wife team. Characterful low-beamed ceilings and burgundy walls create an intimate feel. Menus change with the seasons and feature British ingredients in largely classical combinations. Dishes are precise, well-crafted and full of flavour.

      Pros

      The bread was good

      Cons

Amuse bouche - two of them, both vile - one like marmite on toast, the other was apple and truffle soup - couldn't drink it. Mains were weird - couldn't identify the smears of sauce, but not at all tasty. Lamb was chewy, the flavours didn't go together. We left without bothering to stay for desert. Terrible experience, and has put us off trying another michelin restaurant.

      Pros

      Cons

Our meals arrived at different times, leaving some people politely waiting for others whilst their food got cold. Rather shabby tea shop atmosphere. Un exciting food, some elements of the dish served luke warm. Slightly tough lamb, chewy rhubarb. Unlike any other Michelin starred restaurant I have visited and just as expensive.
