The great hall (34 x 17 x 17 m) is the only remainder of this castle built during the Norman period (1222-1236), and it is a splendid example of a medieval hall, with its wooden frame supported by Purbeck marble columns. Standing by the western wall, the oak round table (5 m diameter) is mentioned in the 14C archives and is decorated with paintings representing the Tudor rose, King Arthur and a list of his knights.
