Windsor Great Park
: Michelin's recommendations
A former hunting ground of Saxon kings and medieval aristocrats, Windsor Great Park is linked to Windsor Castle by the Long Walk. At the summit of the hill, the copper horse is an equestrian statue of George III. Two old royal residences are sited in the park; Royal Lodge, a retreat for George IV and later Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother, and Cumberland Lodge where a son of George II (who laid out the park) lived. Stroll in the Valley Gardens, running down to an artificial lake.
