Bibendum
Adjoining the National Museum of Science and Industry, this museum is a fascinating journey through the history of the railway in Great-Britain since its invention. The great hall, a former hanger for steam engines, houses a large number of locomotives, from the simple such as Agenoria from 1829 to the diesel and electric trains of today, not forgetting a full-size model of the train that runs under the Channel. The museum also presents the technology and culture linked to the railway. In the south hall and the grand hall there is an extraordinary collection of objects: an early carriage used by the Germans in the Middle Ages to carry items on wooden rails ( Hund) to the sumptuous interior of a royal carriage. The south hall recreates the atmosphere of a large station in the 1950s. Platforms lead to the locomotives, first and second class carriages, buffet cars and sleepers and other railway vehicles. Outside, there are many other specimens awaiting restoration, and a miniature railway.
