  Pros

  We visit this restaurant for Sunday lunch once or twice a year. The cooking is creative and exciting. The departure of maitre d', Eric, earlier this year seems to have led to a very slight reduction in service standard but nothing serious. Our lunch today was excellent. Compared to eating out at home in London it is fantastic value. My Angus beef served with smoke, nettle ravioli and snails is a dish I will remember for a long time.

  I can't think of any serious dislikes except that the extension to the hotel is disappointing in architectural terms!

  Pros

  Beautiful North Yorkshire hotel in peaceful rural setting. Staff very attentive and helpful. Sommelier's regional accent doesn't mean he is lacking in knowledge about wine. Quite the contrary.

  Cons

  The food is substantially below Michelin Star standard. A major rethink is required for both the main restaurant and it's brasserie offshoot.

  The food is great but very samey each time we visit. Need to change the menu more.

  Cons

  Very rude restaurant manager. Service unworthy of a Michelin star. Lets the food down badly. We even had the doors shut in our faces after a minor dispute over the bill. Regular customers who will not be returning for some time.
