This magnificent (17C) hump-backed bridge spanning the Árahthos on the edge of town is known throughout the Balkans. It has inspired several legends; one recounts that the architect used his wife's body to reinforce the foundations. The elegant curve of its wide arches alternates with smaller ones, which ease the flow of water when the river is in spate.
