As is indicated by the inscription of its frieze, Hadrian's gate (from 131 A.D.) separated the Greek town from Hadrian's new Roman town, which extended from the current Avenue Amalias to Illissos, now covered. Not far from the gate, notice the monument to Lord Byron.
