Monastiraki Square : Michelin's recommendations

This square, which is particularly lively in the mornings, is one of the attractions of Athens, thanks to its second-hand clothes shops and open-air stalls. You will notice the bell tower of the Byzantine church, Panagia Pandanassa. Nicknamed "monastiraki" ("little monastery"), it is the namesake of the local bazaar, which in Ottoman times, stretched as far as the Roman Agora. At the corner of two streets, Pandrossou and Areos, there stands the Dzistarakis Mosque (1759), minus its minaret, but skilfully restored and now home to the Museum of Popular Greek Ceramics.
